Job Description
Database Services is in search of a Senior Database Engineer to take charge of database administration across cloud and on-premises environments in a dynamic operational setting that backs 24×7 critical business applications. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in Oracle and newer technologies like Cloud and VMC platforms. Responsibilities encompass scripting and automating database activities, troubleshooting issues, conducting performance analyses, ensuring database security, evaluating emerging trends, and developing/testing automation scripts and tools. Proficiency in Oracle and Aurora Postgres platforms is key.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive DBA support, covering provisioning, backup/recovery, replication, deployment, and real-time troubleshooting for Oracle and Aurora Postgres.
- Handle database installation, configuration, monitoring, upgrades, and maintenance across production and non-production environments.
- Offer 24×7 on-call DBA support on a rotational basis and as needed.
- Support database deployments in test and production environments.
- Identify and address performance issues using monitoring tools and tuning techniques.
- Collaborate with Systems administrators on OS-related database issues.
- Develop and maintain cloud automation scripts for provisioning, maintenance, and reporting.
- Configure and manage Database High Availability setups.
- Support data replication, sharding, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Troubleshoot production problems and connectivity issues.
- Implement and maintain DR solutions.
- Work effectively in team settings and independently with minimal supervision.
Cloud Development and Automation:
- Utilize AWS services for developing and automating cloud-based solutions.
- Create and manage automation scripts for enhanced efficiency and scalability.
- Utilize AWS Lambda for automation tasks such as DB provisioning and deletion.
Basic Requirements:
- Over 10 years of database administration experience.
- Strong hands-on experience (at least 5 years) with Aurora Postgres.
- Extensive background in database performance tuning.
- Deep understanding of industry-standard best practices for large database environments.
- Good familiarity with AWS Cloud, Linux/VM platforms, and automation tools like AWS CFT/Lambda.
- Expertise in HA, DR, data replication, and storage technologies.
- Experience with database security implementation, support, and auditing.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Python, YAML, Unix Shell scripting, etc.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting Oracle and Aurora Postgres on AWS.
- Familiarity with AWS CFT development and database monitoring tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in virtual environments using VMware.
- Database and Cloud vendor certifications are a plus.
